What Would You Do With 50 Cars?
Yes, 50 Cars!!!
BBF (The BMW Born Foundation) restores vehicles while restoring people. We provide hands-on training to individuals who have been marginalized, equipping them with technical skills in engine repair, body work, interiors, electrical systems, and automotive restoration, alongside marketing and entrepreneurial skills. Because we had 50 cars, we created BBF to restore classic cars and utilize them to everyday people who could benefit from a boost.
Through mentorship, real-world experience, and structured pathways, BBF serves as a stepping stone to permanent employment, advanced training, and sustainable careers, helping participants build confidence, competence, and a future they can drive forward. And while having fun!
Building Cars. Building Skills. Building Futures.
At BBF, we believe that sometimes changing a life starts with giving someone the opportunity to build something they can be proud of.
BBF is a workforce development and career accelerator that uses the excitement, creativity, and discipline of automotive restoration to help individuals discover their talents, develop marketable skills, and create pathways toward meaningful careers and greater economic opportunity.
Participants work alongside experienced professionals to restore and refresh vehicles while being exposed to the many careers connected to the automotive industry—from mechanical repair, electrical systems, and bodywork to detailing, technology, sales, marketing, photography, business, project management, and entrepreneurship.
But BBF is about much more than cars. We build people.
Every participant comes to us with different experiences, talents, challenges, and goals. Our approach is intentionally participant-centered. We meet people where they are, move at their pace, and help them develop an individualized path toward where they want to go.
There is no single definition of success at BBF. For one participant, success may mean earning an industry credential. For another, it may mean completing an internship, entering trade school, securing their first full-time job, starting a business, or simply discovering something they are passionate about.
More Than a Restoration Program
A vehicle entering our program may need an engine rebuilt, an interior restored, bodywork completed, technology upgraded, or an entirely new look. People deserve the same opportunity to imagine what comes next.
Through hands-on projects, mentorship, professional development, internships, employer connections, and supportive relationships, BMW Born helps participants build skills, build confidence, and build their next chapter.
BUILD skills. MOVE forward. WIN in life.
In Honor...
BBF is inspired by Howard E. Kerr, Sr. He was a car enthusiast, but even more, he loved engaging individuals and supporting them. Howard truly wanted to see people achieve their goals and live up to their potential.
Howard owned over fifty vehicles, and these vehicles serve as the base for the foundation. BBF will serve as his legacy for generations to come. He will always be missed.
